Jennifer Wheler, M.D., Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Wheler has more than 20 years of experience in industry and academic clinical research, including a strong track record of successful early-stage oncology drug development. She joined Codiak from Bicara Therapeutics where she was the start-up’s first employee and served most recently as CMO, leading the company’s preclinical development program through to its first IND, built a clinical team and achieved key clinical milestones for a first-in-class bi-functional antibody. Previously, as Senior Medical Director at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, Dr. Wheler led cross-functional teams to bring two immuno-oncology compounds to clinic. Prior to NIBR, she was an Associate Professor in the Department of Investigational Cancer Therapeutics at MD Anderson Cancer Center where she was the Principal Investigator on over 30 Phase I trials and an author on 145 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Wheler completed a breast cancer medicine fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, an oncology fellowship at Yale Cancer Center and an internal medicine residency at the Columbia University Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian Hospital. She holds an M.D. from the Weill Cornell Medical College and a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from Princeton University. In 2006, Dr. Wheeler founded Collage, a nonprofit organization that brings personalized and innovative art programs to patients living with cancer.
